Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin discuss strategic partnership and global security issues in a phone call

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, on March 24 to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations and pressing international issues.

The leaders reviewed the current state of the Uzbekistan – Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on the implementation of agreements reached during previous high-level meetings. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the dynamic growth of socio-economic cooperation.

A central theme of the discussion was the rapid acceleration of trade between the two nations. It was noted that by the end of 2025, trade turnover increased by 10%, reaching $13 billion. Since the beginning of the current year, trade has surged by an additional 32% and major joint projects continue across priority sectors, including industry, energy, transport, and other key areas of the economy.

The presidents gave a high assessment of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation for its role in facilitating these results. They also discussed active preparations for the upcoming "Innoprom Central Asia" international industrial exhibition, scheduled to take place in Tashkent this April.

Particular attention was paid to the progress of the project to construct Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant. The leaders emphasized the importance of advancing this initiative as a cornerstone of long-term energy cooperation.

Beyond bilateral ties, the conversation covered a range of international and regional topics. The presidents exchanged views on the current situations in the Middle East, South Asia, and Ukraine.

The call concluded with a discussion of the schedule for upcoming events and a mutual commitment to further strengthening ties between Tashkent and Moscow.
