World Bank President expresses readiness to assist Uzbekistan in developing banking and financial systems
The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met in Washington with the World Bank President David R. Malpass.
During the meeting, the prospects for World Bank’s participation in the economic reforms carried out in Uzbekistan and the expansion of financing of priority projects were discussed.
The World Bank President congratulated the Government on the launch of the Country Platform for Coordination of Cooperation with IFIs, for which Uzbekistan was chosen among the first five pilot countries.

Speaking about the advantages of the platform for Uzbekistan, David Malpass noted the great opportunities for ensuring effective dialogue and clear coordination between the Government and international financial institutions in conducting multi-vector transformation processes.
The head of the World Bank also expressed his readiness to assist in the development of the banking and financial system, as a determining factor for attracting investment in the country, as well as in stimulating the growth of the private sector in the national economy.
Following the meeting, the parties came to an agreement on cooperation in the framework of the identified areas and outlined a sequence of specific joint actions.
