Uzbekistan appoints its first ambassador to New Zealand

Uzbekistan has officially appointed its first ambassador to New Zealand, marking a significant milestone in the diplomatic history between the two nations. Ambassador Alisher Kayumov presented his credentials to the Governor–General of New Zealand, Dame Cindy Kiro, during a formal ceremony held at the Government House residence in Wellington.

According to the Dunyo Information Agency, the official event served as a platform for both parties to review the current state of bilateral relations. The discussions highlighted the consistent development of Uzbek–New Zealand ties in recent years and explored future prospects for cooperation across various sectors, including politics, trade, economy, science, and education.

During the meeting, both officials emphasized the importance of strengthening friendly relations and intensifying political dialogue. Particular attention was paid to expanding practical cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, specifically within the cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The New Zealand side expressed a strong commitment to maintaining a steady partnership with Uzbekistan. This includes a readiness to enhance collaboration between the parliaments of both countries and to explore further avenues for shared growth and exchange.

It is worth noting that Alisher Kayumov maintains an extensive diplomatic role in the region. In addition to his new appointment in Wellington, he concurrently serves as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Singapore and Australia.
