Uzbekistan announces payouts for WWII veterans

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who also serves as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, was briefed on measures to strengthen social support for servicemen, improve reserve officer training, and prepare for May 9, which is observed in Uzbekistan as the Day of Memory and Honor.

The proposals specify that each surviving World War II veteran and disabled war participant will receive a one-off payment of UZS 30 million in connection with the commemorations.

Authorities plan to organize memorial events and provide additional support to war veterans, home front workers, the elderly, and teachers. Measures include improving living conditions for elderly and low-income veterans and offering material and moral assistance to families of those who died serving during the years of independence.
