Uzbekistan to introduce radiation treatment for food and medical products

At the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and leading international experts held a seminar on the topic “Radiation Treatment for Food and Medical Products in Uzbekistan”.

The seminar focused on introducing the Ministry of Agriculture and companies dealing with the production of food, fruit and vegetables to the existing and new methods of processing food products, as well as studying the experience of specialists in this field.

It should be noted that around 90 types of foodstuffs are processed with radiation in more than 60 countries worldwide. It is intended to provide detailed information on how to apply these methods in Uzbekistan. These data will increase the volume of exports of fruit and vegetable products in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan by organizing radiation processing in the country for food producers.

At the workshop on food radiation processing, a specialist of the IAEA Carl Michael Blackburn, an expert of Microtrol Sterilisation Services Pvt. Ltd. Vikram Baldev Kalia (India) and expert in radiation technology at the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (Poland) Ursula Grizka delivered lectures.
