Number of kindergartens in Uzbekistan surpasses 38,000 as private institutions lead growth
The number of kindergartens in Uzbekistan continues to rise, with private institutions playing a key role in expanding access to early childhood education.
According to the National Statistics Committee, as of the end of 2024, the country had 38,058 active preschool education institutions. Of these, 28,729 were family-run private kindergartens, representing an increase of 2,085 facilities compared with 2023.
Regional data highlights the highest concentrations of preschools in Samarkand (4,507), Andijan (4,324), Qashqadaryo (4,216), Fergana (4,189), and Namangan (3,962). Other regions include Surxondaryo (3,077), Tashkent region (2,340), Bukhara (2,153), Khorezm (2,049), Jizzakh (1,709), Karakalpakstan (1,874), Navoi (1,466), Sirdaryo (1,145), and Tashkent city (1,047).
The growth in preschool access comes alongside increased social support initiatives. Last year, approximately $600 million was allocated for child benefits, reaching 1.2 million families nationwide. Over the past two years, nearly 3 million citizens have received various forms of social assistance through the “Inson” social services centers.
Additionally, under the “From poverty to prosperity” program, 269,000 unemployed family members have been employed, and 125,000 children have been enrolled in preschool institutions. These measures aim to improve early childhood education and expand social support for families across the country.
