A loaf of bread price in Uzbekistan changing round-the-clock
The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a decree on Sept. 13 about removing the subsidy on wheat flour and bread. Few hours after the decree was made public, the price for a loaf of bread almost doubled in the markets of the capital city.
The Uzbek government kept the prices of wheat flour and bread unchanged for 4 years, which, in the words of government officials, led to huge financial damage to the state budget. Now to ease the country’s budget woes and help state finances, the government has decided to stop providing subsidies and let the free market determine the price for bread.
Two days ago, a loaf of bread cost 650 sums in Tashkent supermarkets, now it costs 1,200 sums. How radically the prices changed in other regions?
The State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Privatization, Demonopolization and Development of Competition has informed "Kun.uz" that the bread price across the country is changing every hour.
