Uzbekistan may host Asian Games
Uzbekistan plans to host major sports tournaments. This is reported by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov at the awarding ceremony of the Asian Games prize winners on September 21.
According to “Kun.uz” correspondent, the Prime Minister said he had been given instructions by the President himself, at the meeting held on Sept. 20, to consider the possibilities of hosting Asian Games in Uzbekistan.
“Yesterday, Shavkat Miromonovich, at a meeting with government and sports officials, instructed us to be prepared for the establishment of a new sports cluster. This cluster should allow us to hold the world's major sports competitions,” said Aripov.
"We have been commissioned to host Asian and world championships in various sports, and in the long run, we plan to compete for the right to hold Asian Games in our country,” the Prime Minister added.
It should be reminded that on Sept. 20, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting dedicated to the development of the physical culture and sports. At the meeting, he identified major challenges for the further development of the sphere and instructed Olympic training centers in Samarkand, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Namangan and Tashkent regions to be put into operation by 2020.
Furthermore, the need to develop a “National Concept of Sports Promotion in Uzbekistan” was also considered.
For information, to date, Uzbekistan hosted neither Summer, nor Winter Asian Games.
