Prosecutor General’s Office commented on the departure of Iman Karimova and the situation with her mother
Imon Karimova, granddaughter of the first president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, departed for London on Sept. 28 without facing any restrictions, the press service of the Prosecutor-General's Office of Uzbekistan informs Kun.uz correspondent.
“We confirm that Imon Karimova has left Uzbekistan, and there is no official restrictions for her leaving the country. Her mother, Gulnara Karimova, continues to serve her punishment in accordance with the law,” said the spokesman for the Prosecutor-General's Office.
Last summer, the Uzbek Prosecutor-General's Office revealed some aspects of Gulnara Karimova's case. As it turned out, she was found guilty of a series of financial crimes in August 2015 and was sentenced to five years in prison.
“On August 21, 2015, the Tashkent Regional Criminal Court found Karimova guilty of several crimes and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment,” the Prosecutor General's Office added.
According to a photo posted on Imon Karimova’s Instagram page, she has started studying at the London School of Economics.
For information, Imon Karimova’s brother, Gulnara Karimova’s son Islam also lives in London.
