Uzbekistan finishes Asian Para Games bagging 77 medals
On the last day of the 3rd Asian Para Games, ten Uzbek sportsmen, defending the honor of our country, won corresponding medals in two types of sports – track and field events and swimming.
Athletics
Asila Mirzayorova won a bronze medal in long jump. In the final, the 19-year-old athlete lost chance to the Japanese athlete with the difference of 1cm.
Elbek Sultanov won a bronze medal in discus throw.
In the 1500-meter run, Marufjon Murodillayev bagged a gold medal. It should be reminded that Mr. Murodillayev was the first to reach the finish in the Asian Para Games in Incheon too.
Another medal was won by Sabina Sukhanova in the long jump contests. She brought a silver to the team. Prior to that she had earned three bronze medals.
At the end of the day, Fakhriddin Hamroyev presented the last medal in track and field events. He crossed the finish line in the 5,000-meter run being second and enriched the team with another silver medal.
Swimming
In the 50-meter freestyle swimming competition, two gold medals were won by Dmitry Kharlin in S12 and Islam Aslanov in S13. Also, Muzaffar Tursunkhodjayev, who reached the S13 after Aslanov, was awarded with a silver medal.
Both Kharlin and Aslanov were awarded in the competition for the 5th time yesterday.
Fotima Amilova and Shohsanamkhon Toshpulatova did also raise to the podium. Amilova and Toshpulatova won gold and a silver respectively in the 50m freestyle swimming.
It should be noted that Shohsanamkhon and Fotima were among the prize winners in all seven competitions they attended. These two athletes have made a significant contribution to the overall basket of the team with 7 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Thus, on the sixth day of the competition, the Uzbek delegation won 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, in total, 10 medals.
Almost half of the medals won in the games (77) were of the highest value: 35 gold, 24 silver and 18 bronze. Uzbekistan is going to finish the tournament in the 5th place as it did in the previous Asian Games. However, the last day's competitions may change the medal tally.
Closing ceremony of the third Asian Para Games will be held today, on Oct. 13.
