Uzbekistan to introduce a unified registration system for all mobile phones
From April 1, 2019, a unified system for registering mobile devices using International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) codes will be launched in Uzbekistan, Kun.uz correspondent reports with reference to the government decree.
According to the government, the IMEI system is needed in order to provide consumers with the possibility of using high-quality mobile devices, to protect the domestic market from import and sale of counterfeit products and create a healthy competitive environment in the market.
The new system will allow users to register and check the ID code of their mobile devices online. In addition, it is planned to organize and operate regional branches for registering mobile devices and providing advisory services.
According to the developers of the document, the new system will avoid illegal and unauthorized use of mobile devices without the knowledge of the owners, as well as prevent from the implementation of low-quality mobile devices that do not meet international standards.
