Uzbek weightlifters returned from 2018 IWF World Championships in Ashgabat
On November 1-10, Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, hosted the World Weightlifting Championships. More than 600 athletes from 88 countries took part in it. 12 athletes defended the honor of Uzbekistan in the competitions. They were able to secure 5 medals (one gold, one silver and three bronze).
Today, on November 12, compatriot weightlifters, who took part in the World Championship, returned to Uzbekistan. They were solemnly welcomed by the sports community at the South train station in Tashkent.
It is worth recalling that Akbar Jurayev, who took part in 102 kg weight category, renewed the world record in the snatch lifting and won a gold medal. In the clean and jerk lifting, Doston Yakubov (67 kg) added a silver to the team’s store. Ruslan Nuriddinov (109 kg) and Rustam Jangabayev (+109kg) bagged a bronze medal each.
For information, there are six competitions which qualify rating scores for Tokyo Olympics. Ashgabat Championship was the first one.
