SCO declared the amount of seized drug substances in the past six years
In 2011-2017, law enforcement bodies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states confiscated nearly 40% of the total amount of heroin and marijuana in the region of Eurasia, Secretary-General of the SCO Rashid Alimov said on November 13, at the opening ceremony of the operational group meeting of Paris Treaty on Regional Cooperation.
“RIA Novosti” reported that more than 180 tons of heroin, 340 tons of opium, 1,500 tons of marijuana and more than 1,600 tons of hashish were detained by the competent bodies of the SCO in 2011-2017.
According to Mr. Alimov, “it is about 40% of the heroin and marijuana seized across Eurasia and more than a quarter of the hashish”.
It is noted that “these figures reflect the real potential of the SCO member states to effectively fight the drug trafficking in Eurasia”.
“But we are not satisfied with that. The SCO will strengthen efforts to combat drug trafficking, first of all, the legal framework in this area will be reinforced,” the SCO Secretary General said.
