According to the statement of the International Monetary Fund, the government of Uzbekistan adopted a methodology for consistently transforming one enterprise after another considering the scale of necessary reforms.
In the beginning, reforms will be directed mainly to companies in the energy sector, followed by the transport companies, especially the national airline and other state-owned enterprises.
Reforms include appropriate steps to break up the activities of state enterprises, get rid of unusual functions and improve administration by separating the management, supervision and regulation.
“Simultaneously, the development of a roadmap reform, which will reflect the overall strategy for converting the sector of state-owned enterprise, will be a useful addendum to the methodology of transforming one enterprise after another,” the IMF believes.
It is expected that reform of state-owned enterprises will complement the price liberalization.
