Uzbekistan to join international documents on the protection of copyright

During the following plenary session, the lower house of parliament considered several draft laws aimed at Uzbekistan’s joining to the leading international copyright protection documents, Kun.uz correspondent reports.

Deputies discussed in detail the draft laws “On the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms Against the Illegal Reproduction of their Phonograms” (Geneva, October 29, 1971), “On the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the treaty of the World Intellectual Property Organization on copyright” (Geneva, December 20, 1996) and “On the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Treaty of the World Intellectual Property Organization on performances and phonograms” (Geneva, December 20, 1996).

“These documents were developed in order to ensure the execution of points of the joint statement of the heads of two states during the official visit of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the USA on May 15-17, 2018. This provided Uzbekistan’s joining in these treaties,” lower house of the parliament noted.

Documents on accession to these international treaties and conventions will be evidence of Uzbekistan's strict compliance with international requirements in the field of copyright and related intellectual property rights, protection of the rights of authors on literary and artistic works, performers and reproduction of their phonograms.

According to deputies, Uzbekistan’s accession to these international documents will serve to resolve an increasing global issue - ensuring the protection of copyrights to art works, literary and artistic works, and ultimately, further improve the image of our country in the world community.
