Liability for infringement of copyright and related rights determined

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has signed the law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Administrative Responsibility”.

The law was adopted by the Legislative chamber on February 6, 2019 and approved by the Senate on February 28, 2019.

According to the document, the Code of Administrative Responsibility determines liability for the infringement of copyright and related rights.

In accordance with the addenda, illegal use of works or objects of related rights as well as reproduction, distribution of counterfeit copies of works, will be subject to confiscation of the infringement means. At the same time, individuals are penalized with imposition of 1 to 5 times MMW (from 202,730 soums up to 1 million 13 thousand soums), and officials - from 5 to 10 times MMW (from 1 million 13 thousand soums up to 2 million 27 thousand soums).

In addition, measure of liability for the infringement of invention, utility model or industrial design determined.

These amendments and addenda will take effect on August 3.
