“Over 3000 women were excluded from the list of religious extremists” – Tanzila Norboyeva

More than 3,000 women in Uzbekistan are excluded from the special list of suspected members of religious-extremist movements. The Deputy Prime Minister, Chairperson of the Committee for Women in Uzbekistan Tanzila Norboyeva reported about it during the reporting-election conference of the Committee on Saturday.

At the beginning of December, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared that more than 20,000 people were removed from the account of law enforcement bodies on suspicion of participating in religious-extremist organizations. This year, 646 people, convicted of participating in the activities of banned organizations, were returned home from prisons.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, a number of women on preventive registration decreased as a whole by 37.4%, however, the indicator increased in Karakalpakstan and Jizzakh region.

The Committee has compiled a list of 61743 women who are prone to committing a crime or offense. They have been assigned mentors.

As a result of preventive work, the crime rate among women decreased by 5% in 2016, by 11% in 2017, and by 35% in 2018, Ms. Norboyeva noted.

Under the guarantee of the Committee, 113 women, who committed crimes and 780 women, who were accused of different offenses and sincerely repented, were given a second chance.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that despite some improvements, the figure remains at a high level. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in January-November of this year, 6015 women were brought to administrative and criminal responsibilities.

16% of the committed crimes are the cases of fraud, 14% – economic crimes and 11.4% – theft.

“Over the past period, we did not cooperate properly with the relevant ministries, departments and organizations. In connection with this, the number of cases of fraud and economic crimes have increased,” Ms. Norboyeva noted.

Only in Kashkadarya region, 30% of economic crimes among women accounted for the system of preschool education, 20% - public education.

The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out the need to grasp the program of adaptation and employment of 3961 women who had been pardoned and returned home from jails. “We also need to organize cultural events for women in prisons and train them in different specialties,” she said.

For information, Tanzila Norboyeva was re-elected as Chairperson of the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan for five years following the results of the reporting-election conference.
