Vladimir Norov embarks on his duties as the SCO’s Secretary-General
In accordance with the decision of the Council of Heads of SCO member states, Vladimir Norov has begun working as Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on January 1, 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
Mr. Norov has previously worked as director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies at the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and holds a rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
It should be recalled that Vladimir Norov’s appointment to the SCO General Secretariat was confirmed following the summit of Heads of SCO member states in Qingdao (China) in June 2018.
The Uzbek representative replaced Rashid Alimov from Tajikistan on the same post. He will serve as the SCO’s Secretary-General from January 01, 2019 to December 31, 2021.
For information, Mr. Norov, born in Bukhara in 1955, served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan from July 12, 2006 to January 12, 2010.
