CIS chairmanship passes to Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan takes over chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The decision on the Turkmen chairmanship in the CIS was taken on the proposal of Ashgabat at the meeting of the Council of CIS heads of state held in Dushanbe in September 2018.
In accordance with this decision, the next meeting of the Council will be held on October 11, 2019 in Ashgabat. Also in the Turkmen capital at the end of May, a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth countries will be held.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Purli Agamuradov who attended the CIS summit on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, said that his country intends to implement a wide agenda during the chairmanship, with an emphasis on economic and humanitarian cooperation.
It is worth noting that Turkmenistan is an associate member of the CIS, which allows Ashgabat not to participate in those projects of the Commonwealth that, according to the Turkmen side, do not fully meet the interests of Turkmenistan.
The CIS includes Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
