Tashkent hosted a workshop on modern system of strategic environmental assessment of Uzbekistan
A workshop, devoted to issues of the modern system of strategic environmental assessment of Uzbekistan, was organized in Tashkent’s Wyndham Hotel, UzA said.

The event was organized by the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection together with the branch of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and with financial support from the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Issues of introducing a modern system of environmental impact assessment were discussed.

Implementation of a joint project was launched to analyze the legislation of Uzbekistan on environmental assessment for its harmonization with the provisions of the Espoo Convention and the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment in cooperation with the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, with the financial support of the governments of Switzerland and Germany.

The main speaker of the workshop, international legal consultant Andriy Andrusevich gave an overview of the environmental impact assessment system, a review of the strategic environmental assessment system in Uzbekistan, as well as a draft Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On state environmental review”.
The results of supporting development of a modern system of strategic environmental assessment in Uzbekistan were analyzed at the workshop.
