Uzbekistan overtakes Sri Lanka as main importer of Ukrainian sugar
According to the data of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine “Ukrsugar”, Uzbekistan has overtaken Sri Lanka as main importer of Ukrainian sugar.
In 2018, Ukraine exported 586,5 thousand tons of sugar for $217,09 million. Uzbekistan became the main importer purchasing 285 thousand tons.
In 2017, Sri Lanka was the largest importer of Ukrainian sugar, the country bought 69 thousand tons. Ukrainian sugar was also “actively” purchased by Azerbaijan (44,7 thousand tons) and Libya (43,8 thousand tons).
In December 2018, the “Ukrsugar” reported that Uzbekistan had banned the import of Ukrainian sugar. According to the association, sugar did not pass customs control at the border of the country. This information was confirmed by the Ukrainian companies engaged in the export of sugar into Uzbekistan.
Later, after Ukraine stopped investigating the case regarding automobiles from Uzbekistan, sugar supplies were resumed.
