Uzbekistan up 2 lines in the Rule of Law Index

The World Justice Project (WJP), an international independent non-profit organization, published the Rule of Law Index 2019. The organization develops the rule of law – a principle that recognizes the priority of law over the state and ensures the accountability of all its individuals and institutions.

The rule of law provides society with sustained economic growth, promotes the development of accountability of governments around the world and encourages respect for fundamental human rights.

Uzbekistan ranked 94th out of 126 countries and occupied the 12th place out of 13 in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The index compilers note that the situation with the rule of law in the country has improved, which allowed it to rise by 2 positions in the world ranking. In the region, the place of Uzbekistan has not changed.

The total score of Uzbekistan is 0,46. It is the same with Côte d’Ivoire, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Liberia.

The WJP assesses countries on several factors, including lack of corruption, order and security, fundamental rights, civil justice and much more.

The best indicator for the country in terms of the indicator “Order and security” – 9th place in the world, next to Canada, Hungary and the UAE. The worst indicator is by “Open government” – Uzbekistan took the 119th place, next to the Congo, Togo and Iran.

Initially, the WJP published the Rule of Law Index in 2010. The index is a unique study based on the results of sociological surveys and the study of expert sources in various countries of the world. WJP experts examine the legal environment of these countries, the nature of interaction between society and the state, the existence of an independent and unbiased court, etc. In 2019, 126 countries of the world are represented in the Index.
