State Committee for Ecology proposes introducing voluntary eco-labeling of products
Uzbekistan is preparing for the introduction of voluntary eco-labeling of products, which follows from the draft document proposed by the State Committee for Ecology and Environment Protection.
The system will be based on the requirements of international standards ISO 14000. Labeled products will bear an environmental safety sign issued by a licensed authority.
Only products whose manufacturing have the least harmful impact on the environment, public health and biological resources will be given such a sign.
Manufacturers will be able to label their products with an “environmentally friendly product” mark on a voluntary basis, after receiving a certificate.
If the project is adopted, it will prohibit the use of the words “organic”, “eco”, “bio” and other similar terms in the name, packaging of goods, product-accompanying documents and its advertisements without a certificate of marking.
One can learn more about the project, submit your suggestions and comments until March 19.
