Voluntary eco-labeling to be introduced in Uzbekistan from January 1, 2020
The government adopted a resolution “On implementation of a system for voluntary eco-labeling of products in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
The system will be based on the requirements of international standards ISO 14000. Labeled products will be assigned a sign of environmental safety. A licensed authority will be engaged in doing this.
Products that produce the least harmful effects on the environment, public health and biological resources will be labeled.
Manufacturers will be able to label their goods with an “environmentally friendly product” mark on a voluntary basis after receiving a certificate for voluntary eco-labeling of products.
The use of the words “organic”, “eco”, “bio” and similar to them in the name, packaging, accompanying documentation of products and its advertising without a certificate of labeling will be prohibited.
The followings will not be labeled: drugs, veterinary drugs, medical devices, products containing substances, drugs and mixtures classified in accordance with state regulations and standards as toxic, mutagenic, carcinogenic and dangerous to the environment.
The change will come into effect from January 1, 2020.
