Presidential decree: There will be major changes in women's rights from May 1

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a resolution “On measures for further enhancing the guarantees of women's labor rights and supporting entrepreneurial activities”.

According to the document, the followings will be implemented from May 1, 2019:

bans on the application of women's labor in certain industries or professions will be annulled;

a list of spheres or professions that are likely to adversely affect women's health will be confirmed;

in case of using at least three months of paternity leave, a father or mother shall be provided with an additional one-month paid leave in accordance with Article 234 of the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

a parent who is bringing up a two-year-old child shall have the right to determine break times used during the day, in agreement with the employer at the expense of their breaks and nutrition, breaks for child feeding;

it is forbidden to terminate the labor contract at the employer's initiative because of the retirement age of women or the right to receive the state pension by age until they become 60 years old or until the expiration of the term of employment;

when lawsuits involving the violation of equality of men and women are being considered by courts, the legal fees for juridical services rendered to women by lawyers shall be borne by the state at their discretion.
