“National currency of Uzbekistan should have a graphic look” – petition

On the collective reference portal “My opinion”, a petition on the introduction of the national currency of Uzbekistan – the soum in a graphic representation has been published.
It is noted that the country has been implementing large-scale reforms in all spheres in recent years. At present, electronic payments are being made on national Internet sites and online stores. Soum is shown as UZS in transactions. It is also fully written in supermarkets and at other points of sale.
“That's why we have to introduce a graphical presentation of the soum as well as other countries. For example, Kazakhstani tenge is presented in the form ₸, Kyrgyz som – ⊆, the EU euro – €, etc. When the graphic symbol of a soum is introduced, texts also become shorter and easier to write. The size of prices messages on display counters will be greatly enlarged,” the petition says.
“I propose that Central Bank should develop a draft graphic design of the soum by organizing a design competition,” author of the petition writes.
It should be recalled that in early June 2018, it was reported that a graphic look of the soum might appear. It was envisaged in the draft law “On the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan” in the new edition.
