6 Uzbeks released from slavery in Chechnya
Six citizens of Uzbekistan who came to work in Chechnya were kept under slavery by one of the local residents. The Uzbeks were kept at the farm near Proletarsky village (at 15 km distance from Grozny airport).
Two Uzbek citizens have been slaved in Chechnya since January of this year, and four more - since mid-March, Kavkaz.Realii reported referring to a statement of Alexei Nikitin, an employee of the “Alternativa” organization for the problems of slavery.
All migrants were seized personal identity documents and were forced to work under difficult conditions, Nikitin said referring to relatives of the captives.
Two Uzbeks who came earlier were ill, but did not receive any medical assistance.
“According to relatives, the farmer regularly beat up his employees and threatened to kill them if they tried to escape,” the source said. No wages were paid, people worked for free and had little food.
Recently, this report has been widely disseminated on social networks.
“Yesterday the farmer returned their passports and sent them to Krasnodar in a taxi. Apparently, he noticed that the case was disclosed and decided to take them away. They were not paid any money. Their relatives sent money, they must be leaving for their home country tomorrow,” Nikitin said.
