Reportedly, the “Uzstandard” agency is a state regulator in the field of standardization and metrology. However, it is competing with participants in the market of certification and metrology services.
As of today, there are 545 laboratories (46% of them are private) and 113 certification bodies accredited in the country. At the same time, monopoly of state unitary enterprises belonging to the “Uzstandard” agency is observed in this sphere.
In this regard, within the framework of the “Roadmap”, covering the main areas of activity of the Antimonopoly Committee in 2019 approved by the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the “Uzstandard” Agency, jointly with the State Agency for Property Management, has developed a draft resolution on development of competition in the field of standardization and meteorology.
In accordance with the resolution, it is envisaged that the “Uzstandard” agency will retain the function of accrediting subjects of standardization and metrology and a competitive environment will be created by withdrawing state unitary enterprises operating in the sphere from the governance of the Agency.
