Trial over former officials of the Agency for issues of external labor migration begins in Tashkent

The trial over the former leadership of the Agency for issues of external labor migration has begun in Tashkent.

The Tashkent city court on criminal proceedings began an open trial of the criminal case against the defendants R. Ibrahimov (ex-head of the Agency for issues of external labor migration), U. Nazarov (former deputy the head of the Agency for issues of external labor migration), A. Abdullaev (former head of the same Agency) and O. Makhsudov (former director of the Center for pre-departure adaptation and training of the Agency for issues of external labor migration).

The trial is chaired by the judge of the Tashkent city court on criminal proceedings Orifjon Kilichev.

The defendants are accused of committing crimes under Articles 210 (receiving a bribe), 211 (giving a bribe), 243 (legalizing income received from criminal activities) and 278-2 (illegal (unauthorized) access to computer information) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The trial is underway.

It should be recalled that in November 2018, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan initiated a criminal case against the officials of the Agency for issues of external labor migration on the fact of a number of malfeasance under the Criminal Code.

“In the course of investigative actions on November 16, 2018, the director of the Agency for issues of external labor migration, R. I., the deputy director of the Agency, U. N. and the head of department at the Agency A. A., as well as the head of the Agency branch O. M. were prosecuted. A preventive measure in the form of detention was taken against them,” the supervisory authority declared at that time.

According to media reports, executives of the Agency for issues of external labor migration are suspected of taking bribes in the amount of $20 million from those who wanted to find a job in South Korea.
