Uzbekistan, IIAS agree on expanding multi-faceted cooperation

On April 23, 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Netherlands Dilyor Khakimov visited Leiden University, one of the leading scientific-educational centers in Europe, where he met and held talks with the Deputy Director of the International Institute of Asian Studies (IIAS) at Leiden University Willem Vogelsang and a leading researcher at the institute, professor of Asian studies Amine Mehdi.

As noted during the conversation, the Uzbek side is interested in developing multi-faceted cooperation with the IIAS, one of the recognized leaders of scientific-research development in the humanities and social sciences, as well as a platform for knowledge sharing, in which international partners participate.

Taking into account the role of Uzbekistan in the transformation of political-economic processes in the region, the parties agreed on the importance of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, which should contribute to a better and more comprehensive understanding of the contemporary realities of Asian countries, as well as encourage dialogue and expert interaction.

Following the talks, a plan of joint activities was agreed on:

- considering the visit of Uzbekistan delegation to the University on July 16-19 to participate in the 11th International Convention of Asian Researchers and the conference on the theme “Political economy and impact of the initiative “One belt – one road”;

- elaborating the issue of establishing IIAS cooperation with the “El-yurt umidi” Foundation, the Institute of strategic and interregional studies under the President of Uzbekistan, the Coordinating-analytical center for international cooperation and security at the MFA, the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
