Capital's administration comments on “New Tashkent” project of Benoy
Tashkent city administration reacted to the publication of the draft master plan for the city, which was posted on its website by the British architectural company Benoy.
“Many people were quick to give their expert opinion that this is a utopia and this is wrong. Benoy only offered its own version. But it has not yet been adopted. There will be several more such contractors with their options and the decision will be made by a special commission,” the city administration said.
It was stressed that there is no final and approved plan. As soon as it appears, it will be reported.
Reportedly, Benoy proposed a new project for Tashkent, which envisages moving administrative authority bodies, embassies, business facilities and the airport to “New Tashkent”. On the left bank of the Chirchik River, it is proposed to build a city for 2 million people on 20,000 hectares of land.
According to architects, “New Tashkent” should include several “centers of gravity”: the government block, the business city, the new airport area and the unique New Tashkent Island - the island between the current city and the new one.
There will be residential areas, shopping and entertainment complexes on the proposed territory. Also, there is a system of canals, on the banks of which walking zones are planned.
This design decision is only a vision of the British architectural company about how Tashkent should develop.
