Recycling fee will not lead to increase in car prices – UzAuto Motors
As it was previously reported, Uzbekistan is planning to introduce recycling fee. This is a one-time cash payment to the state for a car assembled in the country or imported from abroad. It is paid by automakers and importers, therefore, as a rule, it is already included in the final cost of a car.
UzAuto Motors reported that introduction of the fee will not lead to increase in car prices. In particular, according to the Acting Director General Rustam Rajabov, it will be like the program “trade-in”, when the old vehicle is handed over for recycling, another one with an additional charge will be presented.
According to Shavkatbek Alimov, a representative of Uzavtosanoat, Uzbekistan manufactured more than 3 million vehicles, of which 2 million were sold in the domestic market. Nowadays there are vehicles produced back in 1996.
Rustam Rajabov agreed that there are a lot of old cars in the country that can be hazardous to the environment. In Uzbekistan, there is no “car cemetery”, but this does not mean that it is too early to deal with the problem of disposal.
“For example, a liquid flowing from an old battery, thrown in the middle of a field, can easily lead to the death of a whole herd of cows,” Rajabov said.
