Uzbekistan, US say negotiations are the only way to peacefully resolve the Afghan problem
Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who arrived in Washington as the head of Uzbekistan delegation to participate in the Second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom, met with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad.
According to the press service of the MFA, within the framework of the regular Uzbek-American dialogue on cooperation in the Afghan sector, the sides exchanged views on the current state of relations and prospects for their development.
The parties expressed support for the outcome of the inter-Afghan conference held in Doha (Qatar) and confirmed that negotiations are the only way to peacefully resolve the long-standing Afghan problem.
The US side voiced support for the efforts of Uzbekistan to promote the launch of a peaceful political process in Afghanistan, as well as the implementation of important infrastructure projects in the energy and transport sectors.
