All industrial enterprises in Uzbekistan to undergo compulsory energy audits
Industrial enterprises of Uzbekistan will be obliged to conduct an energy audit, said Minister of Economy and Industry Botir Khodjayev.
The minister pointed out that this year, together with the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Efficiency Concept will be developed, which will include an energy audit.
“All enterprises will undergo an energy audit. Those who do not meet the standards will pay compensation based on overspending schedule,” Khodjayev said.
According to the World Bank, the economy of Uzbekistan is one of the most energy-intensive in the world. For example, the energy intensity of a country's GDP is 35% more than in neighboring Kazakhstan, and three times more than in Germany. The industrial sector, which often uses outdated technologies in the production process, accounts for about 40% of the total energy consumed in the country.
The biggest problem for improving the indicator, Khodzhaev called, is attracting modern technologies in production.
