Foodstuff, non-food product prices begin to rise
Foodstuff and non-food product prices began to grow in the markets of Uzbekistan, Kun.uz sources report.
According to sources, prices for some non-food items (for example, prices for laundry detergents) increased on average by 500-1000 soums. Prices for many carbonated and non-carbonated beverages increased on average by 500 soums. Sooner the rise in prices for tobacco and alcohol products is expected.
Prices for seasonal vegetables and fruits remain stable. At the same time, the prices for meat, as well as for foodstuffs imported from abroad, are growing at places.
Price increase is also expected for imported non-food products. First of all, this is due to the growth of the foreign exchange rate, especially the US dollar. In addition, according to sources, at present, the state is “pinching” importers from all sides. The main goal is to increase exports and reduce the level of imports.
In general, many trade representatives also associate price increases with wage increases.
It should be recalled that on May 11, the president signed a decree “On improving the procedure for determining the size of wages, pensions, benefits and other payments”.
According to the document, starting from August 1, 2019, the following minimum rates are established on the territory of the republic:
- minimum monthly wage – 223,000 soums per month;
- age pensions – 436,150 soums per month;
- benefits to persons with disabilities from childhood – 436,150 soums per month;
- benefits for elderly and disabled citizens who do not have the necessary work experience – 267,650 soums per month.
