Uzbekistan, US discuss prospects of cooperation in mitigating Aral Sea ecological disaster consequences

On August 2, 2019, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Ilhom Nematov met with the Coordinator of the Support for East European Democracy (SEED) Program at the U.S. Department of State James Michael Kulikowski, the press service of the MFA reported.

During the meeting, high dynamics of bilateral relations and successful outcome of Uzbekistan delegation’s visit to the United States on July 16-23, which allowed to consider practical issues of further development of contacts in various fields, were noted.

The parties considered specific issues of interaction and implementation of joint projects in economic and technological modernization, agriculture, healthcare, education, the legal field and others.

Special attention was paid to prospects of cooperation in mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea ecological disaster within the framework of the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region by providing financial assistance.
