President pays tribute to the memory of victims of political repression
On the morning of August 31, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the annual commemoration ceremony for victims of repression on the Shahidlar Xotirasi alley, the presidential press service reported.

According to tradition, after reciting surahs from the Qur'an, a memorial pilaf was served, after which the president talked with elders, religious figures and intellectuals.
The report also notes that much attention is paid to the study of the life and legacy of heroic ancestors, perpetuating their memory and educating young people with broad-minded patriotic personalities.
The Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression was established on the initiative of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in 2001.
