Minister of Water Resources: Uzbekistan’s relations with neighboring countries on transboundary rivers have improved
On September 12, a press conference with participation of officials from the Ministry of Water Resources was held at the Agency for Information and Mass Communications.
Participants of the meeting were informed about implementation of the presidential decree “On measures to radically improve the system of state management of agriculture and water resources”.
During the event, reporters posed a question about cooperation of the Ministry of Water Resources with international organizations.
The Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamrayev stated the followings:
“On September 1-7 this year, the 3rd World Irrigation Forum and the 70th International Executive Council Meeting of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) were held in Bali, Indonesia. I also participated in the forum as the head of the Uzbekistan delegation.
First of all, I would like to note that in recent years, opinion of different water organizations and committees of the world on Uzbekistan is changing.
The biggest issue in the sphere for us has been the cold relationship with neighboring countries on transboundary rivers.
Now things have changed, we are pursuing a friendly policy with our neighbors. Delegates from bordering states also attended the meeting in Bali.
In general, all international organizations support these relations and their attitude towards Uzbekistan is improving”.
