Tashkent may become “World Book Capital” in 2022
Tashkent is planning to apply for the title “World Book Capital” in 2022. This was announced on September 27, at a press conference devoted to the “Tashkent Book Fest” International Book Fair.
Cities designated as UNESCO World Book Capital undertake to promote books and reading and to organize activities over the year.
“We want the city of Tashkent to apply for the title World Book Capital in 2022. For 2020, Malaysia has already applied.
We are currently following all UNECCO requirements to achieve this title.
In particular, the 1st Tashkent International Book Fair, which will be held on October 2-4 this year, is one of such activities that is being done in this direction,” Kun.uz correspondent quotes the Director of the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi Umida Teshabayeva as saying.
