US Trade Representative leadership expresses readiness to help Uzbekistan in joining the WTO
On October 22, the delegation of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the leadership of the US Trade Representative in Washington.
The expansion of investment and trade-economic cooperation with the United States, the prospects for collaboration in the field of integration of Uzbekistan into the global market through accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the establishment of strong trade ties with key partners were discussed at the meeting.
It was noted that a big step towards accelerated intensification of partnership could be the recognition of Uzbekistan as a country with a market economy in accordance with US laws, which in turn will remove the existing barriers to mutual trade.
In this regard, the parties considered the intentions of Uzbekistan to maintain the current status of beneficiary in the GSP system, the American side highly appreciated the measures taken by the Government to ensure compliance with labor laws and protect intellectual property rights.
The leadership of the US Trade Representative expressed their readiness to support the position of the Government of Uzbekistan in subsequent negotiations on accession to the WTO.
The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) is responsible for developing and coordinating US international trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and overseeing negotiations with other countries. The head of USTR is the US Trade Representative, a Cabinet member who serves as the president’s principal trade advisor, negotiator, and spokesperson on trade issues.
