Bundestag Vice-President to pay a working visit to Uzbekistan in 2020

As part of a working visit to Germany, the delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by the Senate Committee Chairman Alisher Kurmanov, met with the leadership of the German Bundestag in the office of the German Federal Chancellor. The Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of Uzbekistan reported about this.

The Bundestag Vice President Hans-Peter Friedrich emphasized that the German parliament attaches great importance to the expansion of inter-parliamentary relations between Uzbekistan and the Federal Republic of Germany. According to him, in recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and Germany have reached the level of in-depth strategic partnership. He also noted the importance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan. 

“The delegation of Uzbekistan welcomed the decision of the German side to send Bundestag deputies as observers to the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan, including as part of the OSCE mission,” the report said.

At the same time, Hans-Peter Friedrich expressed his desire to pay a working visit to Uzbekistan in 2020 to discuss the issues of further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, exchange of experience on improving the effectiveness of parliament in implementing strategic tasks of domestic and foreign policy, including foreign economic relations.

In addition, the Uzbek delegation held a separate meeting in the office of the Federal Chancellor with the leadership and specialists of the key Department of Economic, Financial and Energy Policy.

The Deputy Director of the Department T. Winter noted that the German government attaches priority to the implementation of agreements reached during the meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Winter said that the German government has significantly increased the volume of financial and technical assistance provided to Uzbekistan, which is a clear signal of Berlin’s support for the reform course of the President of Uzbekistan and interest in further intensification of bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
