Law enforcement officers detain currency traffickers in Tashkent

Law enforcement officers detained several people who were engaged in currency trafficking in Tashkent.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, in the “Gulistan” mahalla of the Tashkent district, three local residents wanted to sell 180,000 Turkmen manats for 18,000 US dollars.

A criminal case was instituted against the detainees under Article 177 (illegal acquisition or sale of currency values) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.

Earlier, the Turkmen media reported that these days, at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ashgabat, one can see a queue of hundreds of people, who want to get a tourist visa to the republic.

“In January-June 2019, over 233,000 citizens of Turkmenistan visited Uzbekistan. The main purpose of their trips is the sale of consumer goods in Uzbekistan and cash withdrawal at local ATMs,” the media said.
