The Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva made a proposal to hold a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states in Uzbekistan, the Senate press service reported.
On Friday, the speaker, along with the delegation of Uzbekistan, took part in the 50th anniversary meeting of the CIS IPA in St. Petersburg.
In her speech at the IPA session, Narbayeva noted that Uzbekistan is preparing to assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth in 2020 and hold the next CIS summit. In particular, a chairmanship concept and an action plan for its implementation were prepared and approved, taking into account the priorities identified by Uzbekistan at the CIS summit in Ashgabat in October this year.
“It was noted that the work in realizing these priorities also provides for active and fruitful cooperation within the framework of the CIS IPA. In this regard, Tanzila Narbayeva suggested holding one of the IPA meetings in Uzbekistan as part of the country’s chairmanship in the CIS,” the report said.
The Senate Chairperson Narbayeva also emphasized that the CIS IPA is a unique platform for implementing the tasks set for each of the parliaments of participating states and aimed at ensuring security, sustainable development and prosperity of peoples.
Uzbekistan signed the CIS IPA convention in November 2018 in St. Petersburg. In March 2019, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ratified the document.
