Signing of agreements for $6.5 billion expected following Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Japan

During the visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan on December 17-20, 48 agreements and contracts totaling $6.5 billion will be signed, the MIFT press service said.

Within the framework of the visit, the head of state is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, President of the House of Councilors of Parliament Akiko Santō, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tadamori Ōshima, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Tarō Asō.

The parties will discuss priority areas for the development of Uzbek-Japanese relations, including for the long term, exchange views on pressing international problems.

The President of Uzbekistan will also be received by the Emperor of Japan Naruhito.

According to the MIFT, an Uzbek-Japanese business forum was held in Tokyo today with the participation of Japanese Finance Minister T. Asō, heads of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, and the Japan Business Federation (KEYDANREN). In total, the event was attended by representatives of more than 500 Japanese companies and organizations.

Following the forum, a number of bilateral documents were signed on the implementation of joint projects and initiatives. An interaction will also be established between the Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities and the Institute of Economics and Energy of Japan – a program for the development of a heat supply system and a master plan for the development of Uzbekistan will be jointly developed.
