Uzbekistan up 5 lines in the 2019 World Press Freedom Index
Uzbekistan ranked 160th out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index 2019, compiled by Reporters Without Borders. The country has improved its position in the ranking by climbing 5 lines compared to the previous year and ceased to be colored black, the mark of a “very bad” situation.
Among the countries of Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan ranks 83rd (98th in 2018), Kazakhstan – 158th (158th in 2018), Tajikistan – 161st (149th in 2018) and Turkmenistan – 180th (178th in 2018).
Norway is ranked first in the 2019 Index for the third year running while Finland (up two places) has taken second place from the Netherlands (down one at 4th). The TOP-3 is concluded by Sweden.
The countries at the bottom of the ranking with the lowest indicators include Eritrea, North Korea and Turkmenistan.
