Japan to grant 346 million yen to improve living standards of people in the Aral Sea region
During the official visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan, many documents were signed. Japan, one of the most developed countries in the world, has stated that it does care about the situation in the Aral Sea region of Uzbekistan.
As Kun.uz correspondent reports, Japan will allocate 346 million yen ($3.2 million) of complimentary aid to improve the living standards of the Aral Sea region’s population. The parties exchanged notes in this regard. The Uzbek side accepted the agreement as a sign of high respect.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe expressed his opinions about this at a press briefing.
“The Japanese government understands the complex environmental situation in the Aral Sea area and wants to contribute to improve the living standards of the region’s people with the participation of international organizations,” he said.
It was noted during the meetings that this cooperation would be in line with the goals of the Multilateral Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region, established by the government of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the UN.
