Uzbekistan, Japan discuss $7.7 billion pipeline of new energy projects
Uzbekistan and Japan have discussed expanding cooperation in the energy sector, including the construction of high-voltage transmission lines and substations, as Japanese companies explore new projects worth a combined $7.7 billion.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and a delegation from the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) led by Takeshi Hashimoto, the Ministry of Energy said.
The talks focused on a broad range of areas, including the construction of power transmission infrastructure, the development of green hydrogen, electric vehicle charging networks, renewable energy integration, and energy efficiency projects.

According to the ministry, Japanese companies have already participated in the implementation of 14 energy projects in Uzbekistan with a combined value of $5.6 billion.
Another six projects worth $2.6 billion are currently under implementation, while seven additional initiatives with a total estimated value of $7.7 billion are under development.
The two sides also discussed the construction of high-voltage transmission lines and substations under the EPC+F model, under which the contractor is responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and arranging project financing.

Other topics included the electrification of compressor stations within Uzbekistan's gas transmission system, the introduction of Japanese energy-efficient technologies, the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid, the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, green hydrogen production, and cooperation in workforce training and the exchange of expertise in managing modern energy systems.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their strategic partnership in the energy sector.
