Japanese company proposes energy-efficient heating upgrade for Uzbekistan's greenhouses
Japan's Sumitomo Corporation has proposed a pilot project to help Uzbekistan replace coal-fired greenhouse heating systems with energy-efficient technologies, including heat pumps, the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change said.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Committee Chairman Aziz Abdukhakimov and a Japanese delegation led by Sosuke Ishida, Director of the Infrastructure Business Department at Sumitomo Corporation.

The initiative envisions modernizing greenhouse heating by introducing energy-efficient technologies as an alternative to coal-based systems. As part of the project, the parties discussed establishing a demonstration site at the Green Territory project in Samarkand region to test advanced heating solutions under local conditions.

The Japanese side presented international experience in deploying energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for greenhouse complexes, with a particular focus on heat pump technology. The delegation also highlighted a modern greenhouse project in Turkmenistan that uses climate control solutions developed by Daikin.

Sumitomo representatives noted that, in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the company is implementing environmental projects in more than 20 countries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue expert-level consultations, prepare a list of priority projects, and develop potential financing mechanisms for the implementation of the proposed pilot initiative.
