Uzbekistan considers membership in The Hague Conference on Private International Law

On December 20, 2019, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilhom Nematov met with the Secretary General of The Hague Conference on Private International Law Christophe Bernasconi, who arrived in Uzbekistan as an international observer for the December 22 elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis and local council of people’s deputies.

During the meeting, Christophe Bernasconi was informed in detail about the new foreign policy of the country, the innovations introduced in Uzbekistan to democratize the electoral process, including the organization of early voting at places abroad where citizens of Uzbekistan live, and the increasing role of election observers.

The parties also discussed issues related to the upcoming membership of our country in The Hague Conference on Private International Law and the prospects for Uzbekistan’s participation in the conventions adopted within the framework of this organization.
