Parliamentary elections kick off in Uzbekistan
Today, December 22 at 08:00, polling stations opened in all regions of Uzbekistan. More than 20.5 million voters will be able to vote for candidates for deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis and local Councils.
The national anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan was sounded at polling stations, the seal of ballot boxes was opened in the presence of commission members, observers of candidates and witnesses.
According to the Unified voters list, 10 million 147 thousand 772 voters are men and 10 million 355 thousand 690 – women; 2 million people are expected to exercise their voting rights for the first time.
According to UzA, 1 million 721 thousand 358 or 8.4% of voters are assigned to 55 polling stations created abroad. The rest will vote at one of 10,260 polling stations in Uzbekistan.
Early voting took place on December 12-18 at 55 polling stations in Uzbekistan and abroad. It was attended by 59,226 voters across Uzbekistan and 89,807 voters in foreign countries.
This year, for the first time in every constituency, voting is conducted for the blind in ballots written in Braille. At the same time, there are opportunities in districts for voting at home for the senior citizens and people with disabilities.
In total, 825 observers from foreign states and international organizations were accredited and received CEC mandates. These are representatives of 9 international organizations and 41 foreign countries.
